CLEP is a social initiative fighting child labour in Nigeria. We support vulnerable children with school fees, supplies, meals, mentorship, and spiritual guidance. Our mission is to replace child labour with learning and dignity.
THE PROBLEM: A staggering 15 million children under the age of 14 are working across Nigeria. Many are exposed to long hours of work in dangerous and unhealthy environments, carrying too much responsibility for their age. Working in these hazardous conditions with little food, small pay, no education, and no medical care establishes a
cycle of child rights violations (www.ilo.org)
WHY: Parents are poor and can’t afford to feed their children nor send them to schools.
RISK: These children are in danger of street problem; kidnapping, rape and other kinds of abuse. They are therefore harmed mentally, physically, socially or morally. They become vulnerable to harm or to be harmed. They are also exposed to dangerous choices; gangsterism, smoking, running away from home, thievery.
TARGET CHILDREN: Poor kids currently hawking on the street or engaged in hard labor. Orphans being foster cared for by another parent.
GOAL: To reachout to 20 children each year and provide education and mentorship support.
IMPACT HIGHLIGHT: 5 children already rescued from the streets. One is a one-armed child now proudly attending school. All now eat daily, wear uniforms, and have mentors.
Before CLEP’s support, my child hawked bread & fish on the street to support the family earn money for living. Today, she wears a uniform and sings at school assembly. We are very greatful for your support”
Azizat is a twin and now a CLEP student. Before that, her father had left home due to inability to provide. Azizat’s twin sister is still at home because her mom doesn’t have the capacity to send two kids to school.
Abeeb is an amputee who has had difficulty in gaining admission into a primary school. Because of his condition, all effort proved impossible until CLEP stepped in. Thank you for giving our child hope for a good future.
